Summary: Rhythm, that age old task of keeping the beat and staying in time is usually left to the drummer. A drum set is an organized array of rhythmic components that aim towards producing a variety of noises. The kick drum, hi-hat, snare, cymbals and toms are a few of the components, which most drummers tend to use. Hitting these instruments in varying order and in accordance with a time signature brings out the beat.

In this free video clip series David Pakman will show you just how easy it is to utilize half-time and incorporate it into your next drum pattern. You'll learn the half-time shuffle drum beat pattern along with several variations. David will then show you how to integrate ghost notes and the hi-hat in order to achieve a more active and complex drum pattern. Learn to transition and rock in and out of time signatures so that you can drive people to the dance floor at your next show.

About the Expert

Expert: David Pakman is a longtime drummer and political talk radio host located in Northampton, Massachusetts. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, David is trained in rock, funk, jazz, blues, and music theory, and is also a casual piano/keyboard player. He has played with two alternative/modern rock bands based in the Massachusetts area, and has also played drums on college theater productions in Massachusetts. In addition, he holds a degree in Communication and Economics from the University of Massachusetts, and is an MBA candidate with a media and economics concentration from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts, and has hosted a nationally syndicated political radio show on the Pacifica Radio Network since 2005.
