Summary: Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art that has been practiced and adapted throughout the years to encompass many different styles. Though not as "hard" a martial art as say, Taekwondo in that it does not overtly foster sparring and contact fighting, Tai Chi is nevertheless made up of forms which mimic blocks and strike of "harder" martial arts. It is now primarily used as a form of spiritual and mystic exercise that incorporates body and mind through meditation and movement.
In this free video series, our expert Jack C. Huang will teach you how to do Tai Chi Chuan. He will teach you the basic in & out and up & down strokes, the swinging motion, several hand exercises, the single whip move, and the brushing knee block. He will also tell you how to do cloud hand blocks, the Pon, Ji, Liu, and Ang techniques, and how to several kicks like the side, front, and crossback kicks.
About the Expert
Jack C. Huang was graduated from the music schools of UCI (B.M. in classical violin performance, 1991), UCLA (Certificate in film scoring, 1992) & CAL State University, Los Angeles (M.A. in commercial music, 1994). He was also the teenage martial arts champion in Nunchakus (Taiwan, 1982), the Taiwan Government selected and trained martial artist for the US performance team of 1983; and then, the World-cup (Middle Weight) Champion (Los Angeles Open, 1987) all before graduating from Blair High School with John Singleton. After three years of working for Sho Kosugi in Japan (2002-5), Jack is now teaching "Tai Chi", "Wing Chun" and "Jet Wu Dao/Kung Fu: The Direct, Defensive Fighting Method" at California State University, Los Angeles.
