Summary: Winter weather can really put a damper on your plans. Wake up to a driveway full of ice and you might as well go right back to sleep. But what if you have plans that day? Or even worse, what if you have to go to your job? Ice might slow things to a halt in Central Texas, but up north, people are expected to go about their business as usual. But before you go anywhere, you've got to get that pesky ice out of the driveway.

In this series on the one winter chore that no one really wants to do, our expert will share his techniques for removing ice from driveways, sidewalks and stairs. Massachusetts resident Natan Pakman has shoveled a lot of snow and cracked a lot of ice, and in these free clips he will show you how. What equipment do you need for deicing? How should you clear away the ice once you have broken it up? And what about getting rid of the virtually invisible black ice? Watch this series and you will find out all about deicing around your home.

About the Expert

Expert: Natan Pakman is a soon-to-be graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, he has been involved in de-icing and sanding of walkways and other public areas as part of the University’s ongoing winter snow safety initiatives. He has been involved in snow and ice removal and safety in a number of capacities and across a number of venues University-wide. In addition to the experience in these skills that he gained while at UMass, he started working in these areas with years of informal experience – experience which anyone who has lived with their parents in Massachusetts during the winter inevitably has, as a result of having to clear their own driveway and sidewalk time and time again, every winter.
