Summary: Those titans of the the hip hop party song, the Sugar Hill Gang, once rapped “throw your hands high in the air, ya rockin to the rhythm, shake your derriere, ya rockin to the beat without a care.” But you do care. And you care a lot. You're not just another faceless bootyshakin' party goer, you've got some moves of your own, at least you would have some moves if someone would someone else would just show you some of their great moves that you can then claim as you own. Dance Dance Revolution may take you part of the way there, but here at Expert Village, we have our own dance machine, Jon Coker, aka Flo, and he's got the moves for you.
While taking breakdance lessons might seem to violate the very ethos of the “streets” movement which spawned the genre, no one will ever know you learned the basics of breakdancing in a free online video course. Expert dance instructor Jon Coker demonstrates the foundation of breakdancing steps you’ll need to ensure you don’t “get served” during your next battle.
About the Expert
Jon Coker has been dancing for the past 20 years. He grew up watching Michael Jackson concerts on TV and dancing with his older brother, Billy. His dance life began with street battles in Oklahoma and a few years later his father’s job in the military took his family to Germany where he had several battles with his first dance crew, the Btown Boyz. Coker did not start performing until he came back to the United States in 2004. He made his first big stage appearance in the fourth annual IMANI step show at Clemens High School. He won an award while representing his school in a freestyle battle. That was the moment he decided to make a career out of dance.
Coker, known on the stage as Flo, has performed in various Texas cities and vicinities as the guest entertainment. He was invited to perform in front of thousands at Sea World in 2004, and asked to host and perform in several high school shows around San Antonio before he graduated. Flo was awarded third place in the fourth annual Key Rock Concert.
