Summary: Bamboo is a grass plant that can take a variety of shapes. Some bamboo plants are quite large, and others are very small. This plant can be found in many climates as well. From the cold mountains to the hot tropics, bamboo is a very hardy plant. One of the great mysteries of bamboo is their sporadic flowering. In some plants, the flowering intervals can be as long as 60 to 120 years. With over a thousand species of bamboo, this plant has a variety of uses. Not only do some enjoy the decorative aspects of bamboo, many people have come to find the culinary uses of the plant. Bamboo can be pickled, boiled or fried. Many in China use bamboo as a source of healing infections. The legacy of bamboo is long and intriguing. There is no doubt that bamboo has played a profound part in human history. Because of bamboo's long life, it has become the symbol of longevity in China and of friendship in India. Some eastern countries even believe that humanity emerged from the bamboo stem. Within its interesting history, bamboo has become a plant that all recognize and love.
