Summary: Wiring your home for additional power outlets is not difficult, but does require proper safety measures to be taken, as well as a general knowledge of how electrical wires work. As with any sort of conductor that carries electricity, it is recommended that individuals performing home repair, renovation or basic improvements take the necessary precautions before attempting to install or remove electrical wiring or additional power outlets. In this free video clip series, our expert will demonstrate the basic knowledge you need before adding an outlet in your home. Which tools you will need, how and where to drill, safety instructions and box installation instructions are included. Additionally, you will learn how to strip a wire and test for connectivity.

About the Expert

Expert: George Finn is an expert in mechanical systems. He has a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a licensed engineer and licensed home inspector. He holds two U.S. and European patents, one on a valve and one on a pump. After spending 13 years in the aerospace defense industry, George founded a Home Inspection company, inspecting over 11,000 homes. He is professionally trained in all aspects of home maintenance and repair, and his home inspections include heating, cooling, electrical, and structural systems of a building. He has repaired and built homes. He has been an expert witness on home construction in Berkshire District court cases.
