Summary: Steam cooking is just what it sounds like. It is cooking with only steam instead of oil or fat. As a result it is a much healthier form of cooking and the food is actually more nutritious because fewer nutrients are lost through the water. In the Western world vegetables like broccoli, carrots and cauliflower are usually steamed whereas in the Chinese culture meats are more often steamed and vegetables are rarely cooked this way. They are more often stir fried. Rice can also be steamed and is almost always a standard choice in Asian restaurants.
