Summary: For those of you expecting to learn a MacGyver-style technique to fashion a compass out of a tree branch, dental floss and a stick of gum, read no more. You will not be watching a video teaching you how to improvise survival tools in the desert in this free internet series, but if you are the type who gets lost between the sofa and the front door, then we may just be able to help you out. What we have here is a simple science experiment to demonstrate the principles behind a compass using common household items such as a glass of water, a nail (or a sewing needle), a cork and tinfoil. So if you do happen to have these items next time you are lost, you will know exactly how to use them to find your way home. Or even better, you could go out and buy a compass before you go camping again. And if you watch these videos, you will know exactly how and why it works. And you will be able to impress your kids with your extensive knowledge of science. And demonstrate how MacGyver will find the beer in the fridge at his rest home when his memory gives out on him….
