Summary: Kids are natural-born noisemakers. They are constantly tapping on something, rapping on something, singing about something or sometimes singing about nothing at all. They seem to understand music before they understand words, and continue to develop their interest as they get older. So why not catch them while they're young and give them a chance to develop their understanding of music along with their love for it.

In this series of music education videos, our instrument expert shows you how to make simple instruments for your young children. J.D. Keating tells you what basic materials you need to make the instruments and then shows you how to build shakers (maracas), drums and aerophones: a very basic wind instrument much like a party horn. Have an empty plastic soda bottle, juice can and paper towel tube? Then you've got the raw materials for a jam session with your kids. And fear not, frazzled parents, for our expert has your interests in mind as well, with tips on how to limit the noise level of these fun instruments.
