Summary: Jazz dancing has evolved from two different eras in American history. The earliest forms of the dance came from an African American dance between 1800 and 1900. Since then broadway choreographers have taken it to new places. In the 50's when jazz was the main style of both dance and music tap dance was the style of dance most popular. As the era progressed new dances began to take form such as the Cakewalk, Charleston and Lindy Hop. Tap dance became more of it's own style in itself as modern jazz dancing began to evolve. It is considered a very difficult dance to attain mastery but with work, persistence and these videos you will be that much closer. In this free video series, watch as dancer Maila Damian teaches how to jazz dance or beginners. Expert: Maila Damian is a professional dance and fitness instructor, choreographer, artistic director, performer and actress with over 15 years of dance experience. Elated to no end, these positions has given her the opportunity to share one of her talents...DANCE! She appreciates being part of an exciting atmosphere that emphasizes successful development of the individual, the persona, and ultimately, the dancer. Her dream has taken her on a journey, she moved to San Antonio, TX in 1998 where she performed on numerous TV shows, music videos and handled different positions such as Senior Recreation Dance Specialist and Artistic Director. Choosing to wholeheartedly devote her time in entertainment business, Maila moved to Hollywood, CA in 2002 where she taught classes at various gyms, dance studios and recreations. She occasionally performs on stage in CA. One of them is "Disney's High School Musical" on stage as a dancer and singer like Broadway musical show.
