Summary: Homecoming is an annual event that usually revolves around an American football game where schools welcome back alumni. Centered around the football game, activities include a parade and the crowning of a Homecoming Queen and King. At many high schools, dates exchange mums (corsages) for the girls to wear to the game and garters for the boys to wear. A homecoming mum is an elaborate corsage that consists of a large chrysanthemum which has long ribbons, trinkets and other decorum hanging from it. The garters that the boys wear are a smaller version of the garter that fit on the arm of the young man.
