What does one have to wear when flyfishing?

Learn what to wear, if you plan to go flyfishing.

A person can wear anything. However, flyfisherman do have their own setup. There are two ways of entering the stream. One is called wet wading. The other technique is to enter the stream wearing waders.

Wet wading is done if the weather is warm enough and the stream water is warm enough to allow you to walk in with bare legs. In that case, you would wear wading shoes. This is specialized footwear. That will help prevent you from sliding on the rocks or the bottom of the stream. If you are wearing waders, they are made of several different substances. Some are made of Neoprene. Others are made with some new breathable lightweight material. For the most part, in our area, we use high backed waders, because some of the streams are bigger and deeper. The waders are used to protect you from the cold water. They insulate if you are wet, and they keep you dry. On top of the waders, most flyfishermen will wear a fishing vest. That is something that is usually waterproof. It has a zillion pockets in it for all kinds of different paraphernalia. Usually flyfisherman will wear a hat or a ball cap of some sort to keep the sun off their eyes. A lot of them like to wear polarized sunglasses, so that they can see down through the sun reflections on the water. This enables them to see the fish as they come and approach their fly.

It's kind of funny because in flyfishing there are all kinds of styles of casters. You have your people who have to have this or that. Some people are gadget crazy. They get every gadget made. To get started in flyfishing what you realy need is a flyfishing vest. You can put your flies in them and manage all your clips and equipment.
