In simplest terms, a compound bow is a bow with cables and pulleys. This system allows for a higher draw weight with the advantage of not having to hold that weight at full draw. Over the years, improvements have been made and you will see several variations in the concept and design of a compound. Most, if not all, compounds today are made of composite material, aluminum risers, fiberglass/carbon composite limbs, high tech strings and cables, etc.
