Most folks do quite a bit of homework before they come. I'd say make sure that if it's a job you're coming to find that there's work in the area. As a community of 10,000 there are fewer speciality types
of jobs than in a larger metropolitan area. There tends to be excellent housing opportunities, but once again I would probably advice someone to come and spend time with a realtor and look at the various parts of the community. If you have kids there are certain parts of the community that would be closer to schools. If you love the ocean you may want to look for property that's along the oceanfront. So again I'd say do your homework. We find that some folks actually come and stay a couple of months at a particular time of the year if they are concerned that wintertime and the rain is going to be depressing. You may want to rent a property for six months and make sure that it's the type of area you'd like. But generally, most of the folks that move here tend to really enjoy it. There are several very nice communities around Newport, and housing prices tend to be a little less in Newport. Some folks feel like they are taking advantage of both worlds because they live in an area where the housing is less expensive and if they are working in Newport then the short drive to work might be a nice drive right along the ocean. So it's just a nice combination of things. My advice would be to take the same precautions that you would anywhere you're moving, make sure that the community is a right fit for you. Once you're here, stop by the chamber office because we have quite a bit of relocation information that tells you about the history of the community and helps you get involved in the community. The chamber itself can be a good resource to meet new people.
