What is the difference between an agent and a personal manager?

Learn the main difference in an actor's agent and a talent manager.

The agent negotiates the job. Legally managers are not supposed to procure you work, although a good manager may be involved with some producing and they can plug you in. The agent gets the calls from the casting directors. The agent then calls the manager and tells them a director wants to see you. The manager gives you the information the agent just gave him, but they have to do that protocol because maybe the manager got you that agent. That is the way the manager stays in the loop. If you book the job the casting director and the agent negotiate pay. The manager is just the one who holds your hand and perhaps works on lines with you and practices script with you. He gets you prepared.
