What are the major attractions at Lake of the Ozarks?

The most popular is simply boating. Some people will tell you that we have more onshore boats here at Lake of the Ozarks than you will see offshore.

for particular boats year after year and the same applies for personal watercraft. You can see a boat on Lake of the Ozarks almost any day of the year including New Year's Day. We have excursion boats and you can rent any type of boat. Houseboat rentals are very popular for families and groups who come for the weekend or week-long stays.

Another thing about Lake of the Ozarks - since it is a privately owned lake people can purchase property right down to the shoreline and even open businesses. We probably have close to 50 waterfront restaurants with docks where you can pull your boat right up and walk into the restaurant. We even have one floating restaurant. We host a Harbor Hop event in the spring and fall that highlights all these businesses.

It used to be that we had a lot of bald eagles because of our open waters only in the wintertime. They would come here to feed, but as the population has increased we now also have several nesting periods. We still have Eagle Watching Days.

The blue heron is also a very popular bird here at Lake of the Ozarks. I have seen almost 20 at a time in the early spring. It's very common for us to look out in winter and see one of them perched on our boat docks doing a little fishing; it's a very picturesque sight.
