It is so convenient. In fact, try booking a hotel room, an airline ticket, or a rental car without a credit card. It’s extremely difficult. Having a credit card means you don’t have to leave your house to buy many things. You can just go online or pick up the phone. The other thing is access. Credit allows us access to services whether we have the money for them or not. It’s wise to buy a house on credit, because who has $250,000 in cash? That is a wise use of your credit dollar. As my car gets older and older, I’ve discovered I never want to leave home without two things, a mobile phone and a credit card in case of emergency. Nobody wants to wash clothes on a rub board anymore, so if I want a washing machine, I’m going to buy it. How much sense it would make for me to go and buy a mink coat on credit, though? That’s not wise and prudent use. You can enhance your lifestyle, but you should never ever use credit to support a lifestyle that you can’t afford.
