What are some tips for dry skin?

Dry skin is caused by sweat, extremes in temperature or humidity, and the use of hot water, and should be treated with a humidifier, a mild cleanser, and a moisturizer.

Dry skin is basically caused by your metabolism. The big factors are sweat, extremes in temperature, and physical activity, but external things can definitely exacerbate it.

First of all,

get rid of the hot water. Don't take hot showers or hot baths, because that's the worst thing. Switch to lukewarm water and then go easy on the bubbles. Bubble baths are really harsh on the skin. I would switch to a mild liquid cleanser. They are better for your skin than the ones that come in bar form.

Another key is to moisturize freshly cleansed skin to trap in water, because we are constantly losing water through our skin just by doing nothing. After you get out of the bath or shower, the water content of your skin is great. You want to trap that water with a good moisturizer.

Some people you know have to moisturize more than twice daily. For example, New York is horrible in the winter time, because the heat in most apartments isn't regulated. It's pumping dry heat day and night, and then outside it's really cold. Extremes of temperatures are horrific, so what I have a lot of people do is use a humidifier to add moisture to the air.
