Keep your animals in mind and, obviously, you don’t want to use anything with thorns or plants that can hurt them. As far the plants, typically dogs are going to go out smell what is in the new environment and mark it. As long there is nothing poisonous, I think you will be fine. I have not had any concerns or problems with that before. I would take that back. If you have like large dogs like Labradors, dogs love to lie on flower beds and by doing that they will be killing plants. Lying in the plants is a cool area with soil. It will be costly to you. You may look like at an invisible fence where you put on the collar on the neck of the dog in the yard. You do not want your pets destroying what you have invested money in and so you are going to have a balance.
