Not really, as long as you can stand and walk. If you have trouble walking or with balance that could be an issue, because the dance is about balance. It’s a dance for all shapes, sizes, and ages. We recommend that children start around age 5, but some start as young as 3 or 4. There are people who have difficulty with other dances because they can’t hear the music. We have ways of making music that is very hammered out, or we can even turn the music off. For the most part, the dance form can be adapted to any body style. Some may have to do less traveling and more arm movements. If somebody has the will to do it, we are going to work with them and help them.
Patricia Wright has been belly dancing since 1976. In 1980, she opened the Sirrons School of Dance.
