That has a lot to do with your climate. We are very big on gardening inside, but then we are also very big on gardening outside. One reason for gardening outside in New Orleans is that we can garden all year round. We never have snow, so broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuce are our winter vegetables. They can’t typically take the heat the rest of the year. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a yard or balcony, your only choice is to grow inside. If you have a nice outside climate, you can do seasonal growing; however you are limited to environmental factors like hard rains or winds. You can solve the problems associated with outdoor gardening by gardening in containers; but outside, you can obviously grow on a lot larger scale. Also, if you are gardening inside, you can grow things off-season that people enjoy. If you are living in Colorado in wintertime, you can grow basil inside. If you have a nice bay window or some kind of window box you can grow a lot of culinary herbs inside with no problem. I personally feel that you have more freedom when you garden outside if you have the equipment and the time. If you don't have those things, or if you want to garden all season long, inside gardening is the way to go.
