Georgetown is 30 miles north of Austin, TX on Interstate 35. It was founded in 1948 and is the county seat of Williamson County. Georgetown is named after George Washington Glasscock who donated the land
where the county courthouse sits today.
The population is around 35,000 and growing. The unique thing about Georgetown is that we try to maintain a small town atmosphere. We have a beautiful historic downtown square and work hard to maintain that. We have beautiful historic homes here as well. I would say we have the prettiest downtown in Texas. It's almost always beautiful here. In the summer the average high is 95 degrees. In the winter the high gets to around 70 degrees.
Our visitor's center is located at 101 West 7th Street on the downtown square. You can get maps there, on our website, or from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. We also have information about the surrounding communities and Texas in general.
We have a great public library. We are actually preparing to build a new one, because the one we have is just not quite big enough. The library has free internet service and great summer programs for children.
