How do tooth whitening products work?

Tooth whitening products containing hydrogen peroxide can provide teeth with many shades of white.

Tooth whitening products are peroxide-based (hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide) just like the products that lighten your hair. They basically reach into the tooth and pull out the color. Teeth tend to be lighter when you are younger, and as you age your teeth start to become more yellow or gray depending on the color of the tooth. In a short period of time, we can actually make the teeth look much, much younger. In fact, we are getting to the point where there are shades of white, because bleaching has become so popular that teeth are actually whiter than even the natural tooth shade.
