What should I consider when trying to find a personal trainer?

Experience is the most important aspect when looking for a personal trainer.

Experience. I think more so than anything else. There are many different certifications out there and there are many college education courses to teach people about physical exercise and their importance. But what I find that really ties it all together is how long somebody has been in the business and how well they relate to people. When it comes to personal training there are so many other factors involved besides just the physical. There is the mental and the emotional and many trainers don't bring those things in to account. And when they do this they disconnect, the people just tend not want to exercise more than they would want to exercise. So I think if somebody has both experience and credentials that's the best way to go.

The best way to [find a personal trainer] is by interviewing three or four trainers. Call them at either their local health clubs or look through the web page or yellow pages. Most of them will offer a free initial consultation. And with that with mini workout it gives you a chance to sit down and talk with them about their philosophy and training style and the person will get a good feel by doing that.

Another way is referrals. If you know somebody that has had a good experience with the personal trainer, that's probably your best bet.

For women looking for a fitness center, they need to call around. The way the fitness center looks is not necessarily the way it works. When it comes to personal training a lot of it is really how well a trainer does much more than equipment and set up.
